Blog Post #1...
For this blog I have chosen the inquiry and research question of 'Are There Health Benefits to Having Pets?' I chose this particular topic because my family recently obtained a puppy and my father pointed out that a 'pro' of having a puppy was proven to be scientifically healthier than not having a pet. That struck an idea in me. I have personally experienced the healing powers that animals possess, so to speak, but I thought I might try and come at it from a scientific perspective for those who may be nonbelievers.
In my opinion, this is knowledge that everyone should have and be aware of because having pets has been shown to improve one's overall mental, emotional, and physical health and everyone should have the same chance to know of some of nature's cures. I think in my research I will find more evidence to back up the idea that pets are healthy for people to have. I'm sure that I'll receive positive feedback and information from sources because of my father's preliminary research and because of my own personal healing experiences.
Most people who have put in enough effort in their research will agree that having pets is very benefiical and healthy to those who own them, but there are also people who do not like animals and do not appreciate their value to us as humans. I feel like many attitudes would change about animals if the fact that they had health benefits for us was more widely known. I agree that animals are healthy for people to have, but others may believe that animals are dangerous, high maintanence and unhygenic. I think it would be good for others to have a more positive mindset on the matter. The only way that I expect my own personal mindset to change over the course of research this semester is that I may become more informed on all the effects of owning animals and just how many things they help us with and that we are unaware of. Hope you all enjoy and learn something from this, hope I do too!
