As the Research Continues...

Blog Post #2...

The most interesting source I have found so far was also the first book I picked from the library.  It is exactly what I was looking for in the asect that it has a wide gaze on all the benefits of having pets, even though it largely focuses on the physical benefits.  In this book, it clearly explains and lays out certain studies and statistical facts that have been tested and proven about how pet owners fair better with certain social, emotional, and physical issues compared to people who do not own pets.  The physical aspect is what I find most interesting and is what I feel like will hit home for a lot of people will disabilities, disorders, diseases and certain health conditions.  As of right not, this source is where the majority of my information has come from.  This source is a book titled 'Between Pets and People' by Alan Beck and Aaron Katcher.

As my research continues, I find that I am more pleased with my research topic.  So far, I have NOT changed it at all in regards to narrowing it. I feel like if I narrowed my topic it might actually make it less powerful than if I kept it to the original 'width'.  I chose not to narrow my topic because my over all goal is to show the general population just how beneficial having pets are.  This means showing ALL the different aspects of why pets are a positive influence in lives of humans.  I am finding evience of ways that aminals help people socially, mentally, emotionally, and physically, which was the most suprising to me. Although allowing my topic to remain wide will give me a larger work load, it will also give me a considerable amount of more evidence to back up and support my claim.

I have not had any large complications with my research except to stay focused and try to avoid texts that are irrelevant, which there seem to be quite a few of.  Ill see something that looks promisingbut ends up being something at a little different angle thatn what I'm looking for.  A tip for fellow researchers would be to utilize the sources of the library.  I found an unexpected amount of supporting texts that I had no idea were there.  These sources have offered a tremendous amount of information that is helping to sculpt my research and make me paper stronger.

Blog Post #1... It All Began With a Puppy

Blog Post #1...

For this blog I have chosen the inquiry and research question of 'Are There Health Benefits to Having Pets?'  I chose this particular topic because my family recently obtained a puppy and my father pointed out that a 'pro' of having a puppy was proven to be scientifically healthier than not having a pet.  That struck an idea in me.  I have personally experienced the healing powers that animals possess, so to speak, but I thought I might try and come at it from a scientific perspective for those who may be nonbelievers.
In my opinion, this is knowledge that everyone should have and be aware of because having pets has been shown to improve one's overall mental, emotional, and physical health and everyone should have the same chance to know of some of nature's cures.  I think in my research I will find more evidence to back up the idea that pets are healthy for people to have.  I'm sure that I'll receive positive feedback and information from sources because of my father's preliminary research and because of my own personal healing experiences.
Most people who have put in enough effort in their research will agree that having pets is very benefiical and healthy to those who own them, but there are also people who do not like animals and do not appreciate their value to us as humans.  I feel like many attitudes would change about animals if the fact that they had health benefits for us was more widely known.  I agree that animals are healthy for people to have, but others may believe that animals are dangerous, high maintanence and unhygenic.  I think it would be good for others to have a more positive mindset on the matter.  The only way that I expect my own personal mindset to change over the course of research this semester is that I may become more informed on all the effects of owning animals and just how many things they help us with and that we are unaware of.  Hope you all enjoy and learn something from this, hope I do too!
